WITH FAMILY ROOTS STEEPED IN PORTLAND’S ORIGINAL CRAFT BREWING SCENE & A BREWER WORTH RIDING THE TRAIL FOR — WE INVITE YOU TO PULL UP A CHAIR, AND GET TO KNOW THE PEOPLE BEHIND ROOT & RYE.

The trail to Root & Rye has been one wild and wonderful journey. As the heart and soul behind Portland's Old Market Pub & Brewery and the Broadway Grill & Brewery, Shelly has spent decades bringing unforgettable brews and bites to her hometown.
With grit, grace, and a spirit for adventure she set her sights on Root & Rye. Her experience and know-how brought a fresh energy to what was formerly Crowing Hen – with a touch of cowgirl charm, of course.
Now joined by her two daughters, Savannah and Sarah, this revival is a family affair where cold beers and warm company always find their way home.
WHERE FAMILY, LOCAL HISTORY, & GOOD BEERS ALWAYS RIDE TOGETHER.

EXPERIENCE QUALITY CRAFT BREWS MADE WITH HOMEGROWN HOPS ⚘
We use only the finest ingredients in the brewing process. We take pride in our craft – our labor of love results in delicious, refreshing ales that you won't find anywhere else and our 12 rotating taps vary from unique & seasonal to year-round classics.
Our best seller, the British Bombay IPA, is an iconic West Coast IPA that features a hop ensemble of pine, citrus, and the signature Northwestern hoppy richness. We also serve our house-made Ginger’s Wrath Ginger Ale, Honey Root Beer, and Kilowatt Energy.

MEET OUR BREWER, BOBBY ➷
We’re thrilled to have Bobby Stevens leading brewing and production at Root & Rye. With years of experience and the unwavering support of our visionary proprietor, Shelly Bigley, Bobby has set his sights on crafting lagers and hop-forward brews, including hazy IPAs, cold IPAs, and hop water. With our hop farm right in the backyard, Bobby is eager to experiment with the fresh flavors and aromas of our very own homegrown hops.
The beauty of our property serves as constant inspiration, and Bobby is committed to blending his expertise with the natural surroundings to create a brewing experience that embodies the recreation and relaxation we strive for at Root & Rye.
THE PROPERTY AT ROOT AND RYE IS A VERY SPECIAL PLACE TO ME, THE TRANQUILITY AND BEAUTY OF THE AREA IS GOOD FOR THE SOUL AND I WANT THAT TO COME THROUGH IN OUR BREWS - Bobby Stevens
